Check ICE Detainee Records

To find someone released from immigration detention, use the ICE Online Detainee Locator only after a record shows an ICE hold, transfer, or detention path. It is not an ordinary Pickens County jail release search. No located source identifies the county jail as an ICE contract facility. A person leaving Pickens custody for ICE has transferred between custodians, not necessarily entered the community. Confirm the county handoff first, search the federal immigration system with accurate identifiers, and contact the named receiving facility when the online result is unclear.

ICE Locator Release Records

The ICE Online Detainee Locator System, or ODLS, is a federal immigration custody locator. It can help locate a person currently held by ICE and may cover some recently released people. It is not a historical Pickens release log, court docket, or complete immigration case file. Use it when a Sheriff record, detainer, federal document, or reliable notice points to ICE.

A Pickens release entry that names ICE means local custody ended at a certain time. The person may then remain detained under federal immigration authority. The county entry establishes the handoff. ODLS and the receiving facility address the next stage. A missing ODLS result can reflect spelling, identifier, age, timing, protected information, transfer, or lack of coverage. It does not by itself prove release.

Conditional path. Routine Pickens bond, time-served, and court-order releases belong with the Sheriff and local court. Do not send those searches to ICE without a documented immigration connection.

Confirm an ICE Custody Change

  1. Request or read the Pickens jail release entry.
  2. Look for ICE, immigration detainer, federal pickup, or a named receiving facility.
  3. Gather the person’s full name, date of birth, country of birth, and A-number when lawfully available.
  4. Open ODLS and choose the identifier search or biographical search.
  5. Enter names exactly and try supported name variations when necessary.
  6. Compare any result with the agency and facility in the transfer record.
  7. Contact the listed detention facility or ICE office for current routing when the result is incomplete.
  8. Use immigration court and official case channels for legal proceedings; use the jail record for the local transfer time.

An A-number is the immigration registration number used in federal records. Enter it as instructed by ODLS. A name search also requires country of birth and birth date. Similar names make identity checks essential. Do not rely on one trait or an unverified social post.

ICE Search Fields Explained

Search detail Purpose
A-number Targets the federal immigration identifier.
Country of birth Works with either supported search path.
First and last name Supports a biographical search with exact spelling.
Date of birth Helps separate people with similar names.
Facility result Routes contact to the detention location shown.
Custody result Reflects the system’s current or recent federal information, not a county release reason.

ODLS does not replace an immigration court docket or formal custody record. It also does not explain a Pickens criminal disposition. When the person had both a local case and an immigration matter, keep the two case tracks separate. The Pickens court answers the local charge. Federal immigration sources answer the immigration proceeding.

ICE Records and Contact Sources

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement
Online Detainee Locator System
Use the facility or field-office contact returned by the official system.

Start with ODLS for location. If a result names a detention center, contact that facility through official ICE channels and have the A-number ready. For an immigration court matter, use the federal immigration court’s official case information. For the Pickens transfer, use the Sheriff’s records portal and ask for release date, release reason, detainer, receiving agency, and destination.

A focused request avoids mixing the county and federal records. Ask Pickens for the existing booking and transfer entry, not for an interpretation of federal immigration status. Ask ICE about ICE custody, not the final local criminal disposition. Ask the court clerk for the local order that affected jail custody.

Pickens County ICE Transfers

No official evidence located in the research shows Pickens County Jail operating as an ICE detention contract facility. That fact limits the claim that can be made. The jail may encounter a person with an immigration detainer, but ordinary county detention should not be described as ICE detention.

If paperwork says the person was released to ICE, that is a custodial transfer. Obtain the time and authority from the Sheriff. Then use ODLS and the named federal destination. If the paperwork says bond, time served, or a local court release and does not mention ICE, use Pickens County released inmate records and the court case instead.

Detainer: a request or notice from another authority concerning custody. Transfer: movement to another custodian. Community release: departure from confinement rather than a handoff. The release record should identify which occurred.

When ODLS Finds No Match

First check the spelling and identifier. Names may include multiple family names, hyphens, or spacing that affect a search. Confirm country and date of birth. If the A-number is available, use it exactly as the system instructs. Search results may lag a new booking or transfer.

Next return to the source that documented ICE involvement. The Pickens Sheriff can identify the receiving authority named in its record. The transferring agency may provide a facility or field-office route. A lawyer or authorized representative may use formal case channels. Do not fill the gap with the BOP locator, GDC search, or Georgia VINE unless another record shows that one of those systems also had custody.

ICE Release Versus Transfer

An ICE system result and a county release entry measure different boundaries. “Released from Pickens” can mean ICE took custody. “Not found in ODLS” can occur even while another federal process continues. A later release from ICE may involve conditions, reporting, or an immigration proceeding, but ODLS is not a complete record of those terms.

Build a timeline with the Pickens booking number, local court case, transfer date, A-number, receiving facility, and any later federal release record. This keeps the claim limited to what each source supports. Never describe transfer as freedom solely because the current Pickens roster stopped showing the person.

Federal and County Record Roles

Source Question answered
Pickens JailTracker Is the person displayed in current local custody?
Pickens Sheriff release entry When and why did local custody end, and who received the person?
Pickens court file What local order, bond, sentence, or disposition affected custody?
ICE ODLS Does federal immigration custody information locate the person?
Immigration court source What proceeding or order appears in the immigration case?

Records can update at different times. Record the date and time of each check, and verify an important status with the originating office.

Access an ICE Transfer Record

Submit a focused request through the Pickens Sheriff’s NextRequest portal. Identify the person and booking, then ask for the release or transfer entry, hold or detainer field, receiving agency, destination, and date and time. Georgia law does not require the Sheriff to create a new federal-status report.

For federal records, follow the official ICE privacy and records procedures applicable to the requester and record. Identity and authorization rules may limit access. Public locator information is narrower than a person’s full immigration file. The distinction protects against assuming that an online lookup exposes every event.

Verify the Final ICE Status

A final check should answer three separate questions: did Pickens release or transfer the person, did ICE receive or locate the person, and did a later ICE release occur? One answer cannot stand in for all three. Obtain a source for each event claimed.

If the person later enters BOP after a federal criminal sentence, use the BOP Inmate Locator. If the person returns to Georgia state custody, use GDC. Those transitions require supporting records. ODLS remains an immigration locator, not a universal custody search.

ICE Identifier Accuracy

Keep the A-number with the federal record and the Pickens booking number with the county record. They identify different systems. When names include multiple parts, preserve the spelling and order shown in official documents. A failed name search can result from formatting rather than a custody change.

Do not publish or guess an identifier. Use it only through the official lookup and authorized records route. If the number is uncertain, return to the transfer paperwork or legal representative rather than testing random values.

After an ICE Release

A later departure from ICE custody may include federal reporting or case obligations, but those terms require the actual federal document. They are not Georgia parole and are not managed by Pickens DCS. A county court case can also continue separately.

Record the ICE release as its own event after the earlier Pickens transfer. Then verify any local court date through the correct Pickens court. Keeping the systems separate prevents a federal status from being mistaken for the end of a Georgia case.
